HomeworkRegular homework will consist of reading 20-30 minutes each day and, at times, completing a reading response or log. Response choices will be provided. Classwork that does not get completed will also be sent home. From time to time, work for a project or incomplete drafts in writing may also be sent home for completion.
Grading PolicyWork turned in on time is eligible for full credit. In the event of an absence, students will be given an extra day for each absence to make up work. Late work will result in a 10 point deduction for each day late. Any graded work sent home with a failing grade (<70%) may be corrected for credit back. Work with no name will receive 5 points off.
By 5th grade, students should be responsible for meeting deadlines and turning in quality work. This is imperative for middle school. Please help support this goal of personal responsibility by having your student regularly check their grades on Frontline/TEAMS in their portal. If the student is missing an assignment, they need to be responsible for coming in to ask their teacher about the missing work. Class Dojo
Class Dojo is an app that I use not only as a part of my classroom management system, but also as a way to share photos, text, and provide feedback from time to time. Additionally, students can show off their classwork by adding photos and videos to their own digital portfolio as well. Examples of ways in which students may earn positive reward points are for team work, following directions the first time, taking initiative, showing respect, problem solving, participating, etc. Parents are able to see what behavior skills are being awarded points throughout class time. However, if your son or daughter does not earn points within the day/class period, rest assured that it's most likely because we were very busy and I just didn't access the app at that time. Please download the free app to your phone (or computer at www.classdojo.com), and I will provide you with a code to set up. |
Behavior Management
The 5th grade expectations for student behavior and personal responsibility are high. In preparation for middle school, our students are treated as capable young adults and will be held accountable for their actions (or inaction.) Both positive and negative behaviors will be documented via ClassDojo. Students will have regular opportunities to "cash in" accumulated points for a variety of student chosen rewards. When a student makes a negative choice that interferes with teaching and/or learning, the behavior management plan is as follows: 1. Warning 2. Teacher takes away points in class dojo/private conversation 3. Email/text parent or student will call home 4. Behavior continues, then referral to the office for an administrative conference |
